The Ministry of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning signed an agreement with Nass Asphalt recently, to build a site for the treatment of demolition and construction waste in Askar landfill. The new site is expected to accommodate at least 600,000 tons of demolition and construction waste, which represents 39% of the total waste of all types produced, such as concrete, bricks, sand, soil, gypsum, wood, metal, cardboard, glass and other mixed waste annually.
The agreement signed between the Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Works Dr. Nabil Abu Al Fateh and NASS Executive Director, Mr. Fawzi Nass.
Worth mentioning, the treatment site will include surveying, sorting and refining, to separate the blended materials from the construction and demolition residues in order to transform them into suitable reusable materials in the construction sector. This treatment site will be a gradual change in waste management and recycling in the Kingdom of Bahrain through the treatment of construction and demolition waste, which will reduce the burden on natural resources by turning this waste into a usable product.
